The U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS) is developing through partnerships between transportation agencies, bicycle and trail organizations, and volunteers.
“By building out our bicycle infrastructure, we’re increasing our ability to attract new businesses, boosting Pennsylvania tourism, and making our commonwealth a better place to live, work, and play.” ~ Carrie Lepore, Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development
Routes are nominated for official designation by state departments of transportation and approved by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Designation of a U.S. Bicycle Route means that the state department of transportation and all jurisdictions along the route have given their support. Adventure Cycling provides free technical assistance on behalf of AASHTO to any state interested in developing a U.S. Bicycle Route as outlined in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by both organizations.
